My Experience
I've been writing and publishing nonfiction for more than 30 years. My experience includes:
- Author of The Chesapeake Table: Your Guide to Eating Local
- Writer published in Black Enterprise; Washington Post; Tea: A Magazine; Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development; and others
- Former publisher and editor of Edible Chesapeake magazine
In these roles I have coached writers at various levels of skill and experience, and been coached by excellent writing and publishing mentors.
Structure is always a throughline for me: how do the ideas within an article or chapter hold together, how does the article work within the entire issue or the chapter within the arc of the book, how does the entire work deliver on the promise it's made to the reader.
Expertise and Interests
My primary area of content expertise and passion is regional food systems. I speak, teach, and write on this topic in a variety of forums.
I also have extensive professional background in nonprofit management and fundraising, international diplomacy and protocol, public relations and communications.
My current publishing goal is to complete my first fiction book, a cozy mystery co-authored with one of my adult children. Big fun!
